Lip Pull Vs. Traditional Handles

Lip Pull Vs. Traditional Handles

When planning for your kitchen, it is important to consider what handle you would like to use in advance as this could affect your kitchen's design and functionality. In this article, we will explore the some of the factors that will help you choose lip (or edge) pull handles or traditional handles for your project.

1. The Style Of Your Home

Lip pull handles are very popular among modern home owners. It blends really well with the contemporary aesthetic due to its sleek design. If you have a modern home, lip pull handles will be an excellent choice, especially with flat profiled cabinet doors.

On the other hand, traditional handles such as our Amble Handles are a perfect choice for classic styled homes. With their curvy design and distinct buldges, they complement historical or transitional homes flawlessly, perfect for shaker cabinet doors.

2. Your Drawer Design

Lip pull handles are notorious for rubbing against each other if mounted vertically. You will need to pay attention to having a good gap between them so they can close without an issue. On the other hand, traditional handles have been installed for hundred of years so are unlikely to cause any issue with installation.

3. Lip Pull Handles Could Increase The Cost of Your Remodel

Some lip pull handles will need to be recessed into the cabinet doors. This in turn will make it more difficult for your cabinet maker to install them and therefore they might charge you more fore installing these handles. On the contrary, traditional handles are standard and should not cause any price variation.

4. Consider Future Replacement

Because some lip pull handles require the cabinets to be cut into for installation, it will be difficult in the event that you would like to change your handles in the future.

5. Be Wary Of Colour Difference

If you are going to install your lip pull handle vertically, the colour difference between the bottom and top of the handle can be very visible as opposed to the consistent colour you get with traditional handles.

6. Consider Grip Area

Lip pull handle requires more grip. For a younger family, this might not be important. However for a home with older family members, traditional handles will be the ideal choice for their less capable fingers. Plus long handles can be used to hang towels as well, for example our solid brass Eden handle in the largest size.

We hope this list is sufficient for you to make the right handle choice for your cabinets.
