There are quite a number of brass gallery rail on the market at the moment. However, not all gallery rails are created equal. Some specifications in one type might make it superior to other. Read on to find out what you need to pay attention to so that it will save you tons of time when it comes to installation.
1. Are the middle posts slide-through?
Whether or not the middle posts are pass-through will affect the length of rods you need, and how easy it is to install.
If the middle posts are pass-through, you can purchase a single rod and divide it however you would like. The caveat is that you would have to manually position the posts so that they are equally spaced, and that can be a tedious task given the nooks and grooves of the rail that makes it hard to measure.
If the middle posts are NOT pass-through (like ours), you will need to combine multiple rods to make up the entire shelf's length. This kind of set up will make it much easier for you to install, because the rods will already act as spacers so you don't have to manually measure distances and space each post.
It can seem a little tricky to calculate the length and quantity of rods you need. However we have worked out a formula written in the product description which you can apply. Otherwise, feel free to send us a message in the chat box and we can work it out for you.
2. Are the posts screwed down from above or up from under the shelf?
Some seller will manufacture their posts so that it is screwed down from the bottom up. This will make it very hard to install. Our are screwed from the top down this will save you a lot of time to install the rail.
3. Are the rods/rail threaded on either side?
Some stores will have their rods threaded so you can thread them into the hole. Our rods on the other hand are NOT threaded, they rest directly in the hole of the posts. This will allow you room to modify the rail i.e trimming the rods down to fit your shelves.
Also threading could cause the finished angle of the posts to be different and you might need to manually adjust further for all posts to sit flat on your shelf.
4. How do you install the gallery rail on a marble shelf?
Drilling into marble seems to risky of an endeavour. For a marble shelf, we suggest that you use glue instead of screws.
