Inspired by traditional English cabinetry and vintage furniture, our solid brass gallery rail adds an elegant finishing touch to shelves, cabinets, bookcases, and built-ins.

Crafted from unlacquered solid brass, each rail develops a beautiful natural patina over time while providing a decorative barrier to help keep displayed items secure. The modular system allows you to create custom lengths using end posts, middle posts, corner posts, and brass rods.

FAQ

Installation

Can a brass gallery rail be cut to size?

Yes. Our brass rods can easily be cut using a fine-tooth hacksaw or a jigsaw with a metal-cutting blade.

How do you install a gallery rail on a wooden shelf?

Gallery rail posts are mounted directly to the shelf surface using screws. Once the posts are secured, the brass rods are inserted through the posts to create a decorative retaining rail. Read our installation guide

How do you install a gallery rail on a marble shelf?

The installation process is similar to marble and natural stone, using diamond drill bits and appropriate anchors designed for stone surfaces. Otherwise, metal to stone adhesive can be used without the need for drilling.

Can gallery rail be installed on floating shelves?

Yes. Our brass gallery rails can be installed on most floating shelves, including wood, painted, and custom-built floating shelves. The shelf must be thick enough to securely hold the mounting screws. For optimal strength and durability, we recommend installation on solid wood or high-quality engineered wood shelves.

Dimensions

How many posts do I need for my brass gallery rail?
For longer runs, middle posts are recommended to support the rod and prevent sagging. The exact number depends on shelf length and configuration.

What spacing should be used between gallery rail posts?

For the best appearance and support, we recommend spacing posts 20–30 cm (7.9"–11.8") apart on shelves up to 100 cm (39") long, and 30–40 cm (11.8"–15.7") apart on shelves over 100 cm (39") long.

Refer to our gallery rails' spacing guide and layout calculator

Materials

Is this solid brass or brass plated?

Our gallery rail is made from genuine solid brass, providing long-term durability and an authentic brass finish that develops character over time.

Will brass tarnish over time?

Yes. Unlacquered brass develops a patina as it ages. Many customers prefer this appearance, though the finish can also be polished to maintain a brighter look.

Applications

Where can a brass gallery rail be used?
Brass gallery rails are commonly installed on kitchen shelves, pantry, wet bars, built-in bookcases, bathroom shelving, furniture and headboards.

Does a gallery rail prevent items from falling off a shelf?

Gallery rails provide a decorative retaining barrier that helps keep displayed items in place while enhancing the appearance of open shelving. They are perfect for daily-use items, fragile dishware, or home bar setups. They may not protect against heavy, forceful impacts or items stacked well beyond the height of the rail
